Why McCain?
- From: cgeloneck

Description:
I will be voting for John McCain for one reason: energy policy. I heard Senator McCain say that he would make finding alternate energy sources a "Manhattan Project". It is only with this kind of committment that we can ween our economy off oil. If we didn't need oil, we could treat the Middle East as it deserves to be treated: as a bunch of terrorists. Even the moderate governments support or condone terror. The only way to effectively deal with the Saudi Government's state sponsorship of terror is to have leverage. With oil out of the picture we would have that leverage. I recently traveled to Brazil, where cars could run on two types of fuel, and gas stations had up to 4 different kinds of fuel. If third-world nations like Brazil can be energy independent, it's sad that America has not made an equal committment. It'sa national security issue, not environmental. Cut out our need for oil and we cut out themoney and influenceMiddle Eastern governments kill our peoplewith.

Impeachment necessary
- From: cgeloneck

Description:
My grandparents were friends with several people who went to prison following Watergate, chief among them is E. "Bud" Krough. Krough's open letter to the White House and his writings on Integrity show how this President is truly Nixonian. When I went to Washingtonmy familytold me what John Erlichman told them: "Go, but go with your eyes wide open." I think this speaks to the idealogical blinders that have alienated this Presidency from mainstream Americans. The current legal restrictions regarding warrantless wiretaps were put in place when the Executive, under Nixon, violated people's Fourth Amendment rights. President Bush, like Nixon before him, asserts that potential national security concernsgive him the authority to violateguaranteed rights protected under the Fourth Amendment. I see no difference between Nixon's methods, and the Bush Administration's. Both wrapped themselves in the flag and called their opponents enemies of freedom. It is rare for a Republican to call for President Bush's impeachment; however, I think that violating the Constitution, then lying about it to Congress is more evidence than is needed.

Reeling Republican
- From: cgeloneck
-
Description:
I am a lifelong Republican who voted for President Bush because of his stance on limited government. I even worked in the administration for a summer. In 7 years I have watched in horror as the executive branch has overseen a purposeful expansion of government power. No child left behind, homeland security, warrantless wiretapping,post-Katrina efforts; all limit the power of individuals and local communities and create less freedom. This is antithetical to the core of Republican values.
