Poppa150, 1 year ago | FlagTan calma. Tan razonable.Plenamente admirable. Pero una Norte Americano es una persona que domina la idioma, que conoce la historia, y desea que se cumple con la ley. Asi crea usted, senora. El trato bueno tiene que mover ambos dirreccion es, no es cierto? You are so calm. So reasonable . Totally admirable. But the true North American masters the language and history and obeys the laws. Is that what you beleive and want Madam? Fairness is a two-way street. -
WorkingPoor, 1 year ago | FlagWhy don't you state whether or not you are here legally? The media has made a bad practice of not differentiating between the criminal illegals and the legal immigrants. People who are here illegally often label themselves as "immigrants" and the word no longer has the same meaning for everyone. People are fed up with anchor babies and I think we should adopt Ireland's policy - kick out the entire family, deny them an education, welfare, etc. You continually say "Latino" and to many people-especially with your accent - alienates you whether you intend to or not. My ancestors were Native American and European. I have no problem with people who come here legally and want to be American, however, I'm all for prosecuting illegals who think they are "stealing back their country" and refuse to speak English. They pull the race card every time someone points out a flaw in their twisted logic and demand rights they didn't earn. I have no pity for them or those who support them. They should be treated the same in the eyes of the law because they are traitors. Illegals only take and don't contribute anything but racism, crime, hatred, disease, and ignorance. If you are supporting them it could be why people are sending you hate mail -
libby, 1 year ago | FlagAs we all know, the only people that live in the U.S. that are not descendants of immigrants to this counrty are Native Americans. The authors of this woman's 'hate mail' have forgotten that their ancestors were immigrants . To deny this womans children the same rights that your descendant s had should be grounds for getting thrown out of this counrty. -
LonewackoDotCom, 1 year ago | FlagSeattleEd: those, like CM, who support illegal immigration count on most people not being familiar with the correct terminology as well as the code words that people like CM use. Once again: citizen and immigrant are disjoint sets. And, even if we assume that CM was telling the truth about the reporter asking her that question, what reporter would know that she even has kids? If a reporter did ask her that question, it was about CM's "community", which clearly includes illegal aliens. If you'd like to learn more about the NCLR, search for their name at my site. I just noticed that this is an NPR-produced video, so perhaps they might consider whether putting videos like this at the top of their site - with no opposing viewpoint provided except in comments - helps what little reputation they already have. And, since their mandate probably includes balanced coverage, I'd like to know exactly what the funding source for this was and who I should contact to complain. -
SeattleEd, 1 year ago | FlagLWDotCom, you say that a citizen is not an "immigrant." But that's not always true. Many immigrants become citizens. They don't stop being an immigrant. They are still someone who immigrated to this country. CM described how even though she is a citizen, and her children are citizens, some people treat them as if they are somehow not fully American, because they are members of an immigrant family. As she said in the video, she has had reporters ask her if her kids are a burden to the schools. Some people treat immigrant families as not being fully American, and that violates our core value as a country, E Pluribus Unum, From Many, One. We are many peoples, many of us are immigrants or members of immigrant families, some citizens, some not, but we are all Americans, and deserve to be treated with the same respect as any other American. (And I am referring to America, as in the USA. We need a term like "United States-ian " - everyone uses American to mean that, which I am fine with.) -
LonewackoDotCom, 1 year ago | FlagThanks to wlErik for helping to make my point about why definitions are important. The word "American" , as used by me and presumably as used by CM, means U.S. citizen. wlErik shows that some want to switch at will between meaning that and meaning a resident of the Americas, and then pretend that because of that confusion that any resident of the Americas has a right to move to the U.S. at will. Needless to say, that's extremely sloppy thinking and extremely bad public policy. -
wlErik, 1 year ago | FlagTechnically, it may be true that all immigrants are not "Americans ." But most Latino Immigrants , legal or illegal are. That is because they were born in the Americas, which does include, North, South, and Central America. More importantl y North America, was in the past and continues in the present to be a great country because of the contributi on of immigrants , legal and illegal. -
LonewackoDotCom, 1 year ago | Flag"Immigrants" aren't Americans: an immigrant is someone who hasn't yet become a citizen. Once someone is a citizen, they might be a former immigrant, but they're no longer an immigrant. Why is that important? Because those who support illegal immigratio n - such as the NCLR - constantly try to blur the lines between the different varieties of immigratio n and the different statuses. So, for instance, when CM refers to "her community" , what exactly does she mean? Does that include naturalize d citizens, all Latinos, Mexican-Am ericans, immigrants , or what? And, considerin g, for instance, a recent NCLR study that suggested going easy on illegal aliens who'd been charged with identity theft, it's hard not to believe that her "community " includes illegal aliens. So, a reporter asking her about the costs of her "community " makes much more sense when you're familiar with the NCLR, including CM's attempts to play the victim and smear those who, unlike the NCLR, support our laws.
