About Me
My resume is journalism, but my calling is to write about American race--the nature of the conflict and the challenge of reconciliation.
At my age, 55 very soon, I realize it's not about me anymore. But for more about my 'stuff' check out The American Race at www.theamericanrace.typepad.com
My newest project looks to catch up with my class--high school class of '70-- just to find out what happened since, especially with regard to race. Like the line in Don McLean's "American Pie" (if you don't remember it, then this isn't about you), once 'there we were, all in one place, a generation lost in space'. It's called North Bronx, Class of '70 ( http://theamericanrace.typepad.com/cla ssof70/)
Then we got to college, invented identity politics, succumbed to backlash and/or bitterness. And life happened to us. And the de-industrialization of the 80's. And the rise of the paper (i.e. Wall Street) economy, disguised by the tech boom. And here we are, scared to death about retirement, trying to figure out what a black President means, 40 years after 1968.
Enough about me....that is, about us.
