A President to Rebuild New Orleans
I am very excited to be old enough to vote for the president this year. I have been waiting for a long time to vote and I was able to vote for the governor of Louisiana this past year. I believe that voting is truly an amazing opportunity because I am able to vote for someone who I want to help the residents, myself, the environment, and our city as a whole.
The first fifteen years of my life I lived in Kenner, Louisiana where I was able to view first hand how weak the levee system was. Since I was little I would ride by bike on the levee and have outings on the levee. Whenever there were storms or hurricanes the water would rise so high that when standing on top of the levee the water was close to top. During those fifteen years that I lived in Kenner I was able to witness the construction of building the levees higher. The process took a great deal of time but when complete the neighborhood was at ease to know that they were protected by the mountainous piece of land.
However when Hurricane Katrina swept through New Orleans different levees throughout the city did not withstand the storm. Those levees were not worked on and were still the same ones they had been for several years.
The issue on rebuilding and bettering levees has been looked into now and I want a president who would be able to tend to this issue and help rebuild New Orleans. I would vote for a candidate who would show that he or she cares and wants to help the environment. "Things do change. The only question is that since things are deteriorating so quickly, will society and man's habits change quickly enough?” Isaac Asimov.
Throughout history things have changed but with the coast disappearing rapidly, levees breaking, and storms devastating a city, will there be a president who will adjust to the new ways of life and be able to restore old cities like New Orleans.
